The Launceston Players Society, formed in September 1926, is one of the oldest theatre companies in Australia; since then it has had an unbroken record of operation in the local and Northern Tasmania community. It was started by people with a passion for fine performance, and bringing the best of contemporary works to the theatre going public, a tradition which continues to this day.
Since 1926, the Launceston Players have had many hits, with both state and national recognition in Drama Festivals, and world first community performances of staging rights for international hits such as Lock Up Your Daughters, My Fair Lady, and Evita. Musicals, dramas, comedies, Theatre Restaurant, street theatre, play readings and commercials have all been part of the repertoire of the Company. In recent years one of our more memorable and successful productions was the staging of the world's most popular musical, Les Miserables. This production involved more community input than any other show staged by the Players, with local government agencies, private enterprise, business houses and commercial companies all contributing to the final product.
In recent years we have collaborated with the School of Visual and Performing Arts,Academy of the Arts, UTAS in Launceston in bringing Workshops to the theatre community on topics ranging from stage management, directing, analysing scripts, acting and audition techniques. This is an ongoing process.
The Twilight Tappers where several tap dancing classes meet each week and under the managment of Marg Dick are an integral part of the Players and perform in December each year.
The Launceston Players are renowned for their amazing range of costumes which are available to hire. The stock is accessible to other theatre companies and community groups, and for special events, by arrangement.

We welcome the new members to the committee and thank the outgoing members who have contributed greatly to the success of the Players.
The hard working committee is responsible for many things including that we "stay live" and present a variety of top class productions to the theatre going public of Launceston and it's environs. It also has to ensure the Players long term viability and relevance in an ever changing and evolving theatre scene. We now have a Business Plan which contains many exciting prospects for the future.
The Committee is for ever greatful to the army of volunteers without whom shows just would not go on!
Yours in Theatre
